My Five Senses Activity

I've said it before... my kids love cutting & cutting out of magazines. Here is a five senses activity that we dreamed up while crafting this week.
Supplies- Magazines, Scissors, Marker, Glue Stick/Glue, Construction Paper
1. Write "My 5 Senses" across the top of the construction paper.
2. Begin searching through the magazines to find & cut out pictures of the body parts that go along with each of the senses... Eyes, Ears, Nose, Fingers, Mouth (One picture of each.)
M1 cutting out an eye...
3. Glue each of the body parts down the side of the paper as shown below.
4. Now back to the magazines to find & cut out the objects that we use our five senses for.
Example, below M1 found a vaccuum which we can hear with our ears, a hamburger that she can taste with her mouth, etc.
5. Glue the objects directly across from the body part we use our senses to identify.
6. M1 really wanted to draw a line from the "senses" to the objects on the right hand side...pictured below.
Here she is showing off her finished product. She taught M2 all about her senses afterwards. It was a mini lesson for her as well! A conversation I should have video taped. Too cute!
 Enjoy! s.b.

Healthy v.s. Not Healthy Food Cut-Out Activity

A fun activity to get the little one's minds thinking about food. I feel like all my kids want to eat lately is JUNK! So this morning, the girls & I did this activity. Very easy & it was a great way to spark a good conversation about what foods we should be eating throughout the day!

Supplies-  Paper Plates, Scissors, Magazines, Markers, Glue Stick
 1. On one side of the paper plate write the word "Healthy."
M1 wrote it herself, I wrote for M2... it all depends on your child's age.
2. On the reverse side of the plate, write the words "Not Healthy."
3. Begin searching through magazines for pictures of healthy & not healthy foods.
4. Once your child finds a food, cut it out for them or have them do the cutting. (Again, depends on age.)
5. Glue the picture of the food to the correct side of the plate.
Here is M1 gluing a picture of milk to the side that reads "Healthy."
6. Repeat steps 3-5 until you reach a desired amount of food pictures on each side of the paper plate.
And here she is holding up her finished product...I was happy she chose to show the "Healthy" side.
She did tell me that the foods on the "Not Healthy" side looked soooo delicious!
Enjoy! s.b.

Gumball Machine w/ Template

Here M2 and I made a gumball machine using this printable Gumball Machine Template. Easy craft that involved a sorting activity as well. It was a lot of fun for us both.

Supplies- Glue, Printable Gumball Template, Scissors, Foam Shapes, 1 Piece of Construction Paper, Crayons.
1. Print the Gumball Template.
2. Pour out a bunch of shapes & have your little one sort out all of the CIRCLES only. These will be used as the gumballs.
*If you don't have foam shapes, you can simply use construction paper to cut out colored circles for the gumballs.
(M2 sorting & picking out all of the circles from the bag of foam shapes...)
3. Cut out the gumball machine & glue it to the colored piece of construction paper.
4. Begin gluing the small circles, one by one, onto the gumball machine placing small dots of glue on each circle.
5. Scatter the circles inside the gumball machine until it is full.
6. Color the gumball machine with crayons.
M2 enjoyed the sorting & the ease of this craft. Hopefully your little one will as well!
Enjoy! s.b.

Read Across America Activities

For those of you wishing to participate in Read Across America tomorrow & the rest of the week, here is a link to some great Dr. Seuss activities to do at home with your little ones.
A handful of fun pritables including coloring pages, tic tac toe, a maze & much more. I've printed a bunch of activities for M1 & M2 to do on Wednesday during our reading day. (Like every day isn't a reading day??!!) I know they'll have fun with all the different activities especially since a few of them include  Cat from Cat in the Hat, which they both really enjoy. (We watch the t.v. show each morning & they LOVE the book.)
Enjoy & Happy Reading! s.b.

M is for Mosaic

I've just started working a bit harder on the uppercase letters with M1. My goal is to have her writing her name by fall when she'll start 3 year old preschool. She knows all of the letters but is no where near being able to write them & really doesn't have any interest in doing it at all! So I thought maybe if I started crafting with the letters she'd show a little more excitement. We'll see... but I decided to start with M since it's the first letter of her name. M is also for Mosaic!
Supplies: *Construction Paper, Printed letter M (I used a Word Document & blew up the letter), *Glue Stick, *Scissors, *Paper Scraps
1. Cut out the letter "M"
2. Glue it to a piece of colored construction paper. (Your child can choose the color.)
3. Press the letter down to secure it to the paper.
4. Allow your child some time to cut several different colored pieces of construction paper. The small cut up scraps will be used as the mosaic pieces. We used some of the paper scraps we already had in addition to the ones M1 cut herself.
5. Use the glue stick to cover the "M" with glue.
6. Place the colored mosaic pieces to cover the entire letter.
7. Allow drying time & DONE!
This project could be done with any letter of the alphabet. It just so happened that M1's name begins with an "M" so that's what we chose. We'll continue on with the other letters of her name & many others over the next few weeks.
Enjoy! s.b.
